Xinhua News Agency, Vienna, December 11 (Reporter Liu Xinyu) The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) released its monthly oil market report on the 11th, lowering its forecast for global oil demand in 2024 and 2025. This is the fifth time since August that Opec has cut its global oil demand forecast for this year and next.

According to the report, Opec lowered its forecast for annual global oil demand growth in 2024 from 1.82 million barrels per day to 1.61 million barrels per day, and the adjusted annual average oil demand is expected to be about 103.8 million barrels per day. Opec said the main reason for the cut was poor demand data for the third quarter of this year.

In addition, Opec also lowered its forecast of annual global oil demand growth in 2025 from 1.54 million barrels per day to 1.45 million barrels per day, and adjusted annual oil demand is expected to be about 105.3 million barrels per day.

Opec said in a statement earlier this month that eight Opec and non-OPEC producers decided to extend voluntary production cuts of 2.2 million barrels a day, which were scheduled to expire at the end of December, until the end of March next year.
