羊曲水电站是国内首条±800千伏“青豫直流”特高压外送通道的重要配套支撑调峰电源和海南州千万千瓦级新能源基地的重要支撑电源，电站建成后将有效保障“青豫直流”特高压外送通道满负荷送电，对促进青海省新能源规模化开发应用和打造黄河上游清洁能源基地提供有力支撑。
