卡塔尔是全球液化天然气大国，天然气产量和出口量常年位居世界前三。近年来，卡塔尔一再宣布大幅提高液化天然气产能，认定全球能源转型期仍很漫长，天然气碳排放量低、在相当长时期内都可作为“过渡”能源的绝佳选择。

与此同时，卡塔尔致力于“液化天然气外交”，通过能源合作积极拓展对外关系。卡塔尔长期是中国主要液化天然气供应国。对中卡而言，能源合作是双边经贸关系的重要领域。
